Vaccinium vitis-idaea
The lingonberry is an erect or ascending shrub growing to a height of 5–30 cm. The bitter-tasting lingonberry is globose, red and juicy. The best time to pick lingonberries is from late August to early October.
In food industry lingonberries are used to produce juice, jam, dried berries and berry powders as well as to grain and dairy products. By-product fractions in berry processing are suitable for example for animal feed and cosmetic applications.
The lingonberry is rich in manganese and is also a good source of fibre. Lingonberries contain a significant amount of vitamin E.
