Redcurrant
Redcurrant is a deciduous shrub normally growing to 1–1.5 metres tall. In midsummer maturing into bright red translucent berries about 8–12 mm diameter, with 3–10 berries on each raceme. With maturity, the tart flavour of redcurrant fruit is slightly greater than its blackcurrant relative, but with the same approximate sweetness.
In food industry redcurrants are used to produce juice, jam, dried berries and berry powders as well as to grain and dairy products. By-product fractions in berry processing are suitable for example for animal feed and cosmetic applications.
Redcurrant is rich in vitamin C and fibre. Redcurrant contains also vitamin K and potassium.
Kiantama’s redcurrants come from berry farms where the berries have been grown responsibly and with respect for nature. Depending of the harvest season and availability redcurrants are from neighboring countries or Finnish origin. Berries are also available in organic quality depending on the product range.
